For more than a century, Puerta Verde has been part of Antigua's rich coffee history.

Originally established by the Minondo family in the late nineteenth century, the farm has been cared for by four generations who shared a deep respect for the land and a passion for producing exceptional coffee. Their commitment to quality and environmental stewardship shaped the identity of the farm and laid the foundation for everything that followed.

Since 1999, the farm has been managed in partnership with Ricardo Zelaya and his team, bringing together generations of family tradition with a shared vision for the future of specialty coffee.

Honouring the Past While Growing for the Future

Perched at 1,520 metres above sea level in the beautiful Panchoy Valley of Antigua, Puerta Verde takes its name from the distinctive green gate that marks the entrance to some of the farm's most fertile land. For generations, that gate has welcomed workers, families, and visitors while quietly standing as a symbol of the farm's enduring legacy.

As the coffee trees matured, Ricardo and the Minondo family recognised that preserving the farm's future would require thoughtful renewal. Together, they undertook the long-term process of rejuvenating the estate, replacing ageing coffee trees, introducing carefully selected varieties, and refining farming and processing practices to meet the evolving demands of specialty coffee.

Rather than changing what made Puerta Verde unique, the goal was to strengthen it—building on decades of experience while ensuring the farm could continue producing outstanding coffees for generations to come.

Stewardship Beyond the Harvest

For Ricardo and the Minondo family, sustainability is measured over decades, not seasons.

Every decision on the farm is made with the understanding that healthy soils, thriving ecosystems, and supported workers create the foundation for exceptional coffee. Modern agronomic practices are balanced with respect for the natural environment, allowing the farm to continue improving while protecting the landscape that has sustained it for more than a century.

This long-term approach reflects a belief shared by everyone involved: caring for the land today ensures opportunities for the families who will farm it tomorrow.
