Bella Aurora | Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua

A Family Growing Coffee with Purpose

High in the mountains of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, the Lovo family has built Bella Aurora around a simple belief: great coffee begins with caring for the land and the people who work it.

Located at 1,550 metres above sea level, Bella Aurora is a 36.5-hectare farm surrounded by the natural beauty of guava, banana, and cedar trees. This diverse landscape reflects the family's approach to farming—one where coffee grows alongside nature rather than apart from it.

Today, Bella Aurora is managed by Luis Joaquin Lovo, continuing the work and dedication established by his father, Augusto Joaquin Lovo. Together with his brother David, Luis carries forward a family tradition built on patience, responsibility, and a deep respect for coffee production.

A Family Approach to Quality

For the Lovo family, producing exceptional coffee is a long-term commitment.

Each of their farms is managed with careful attention to both quality and sustainability, ensuring that every decision made in the field contributes to healthier plants, stronger soils, and a more resilient future.

At Bella Aurora, traditional knowledge is combined with thoughtful innovation. The family remains closely involved throughout the entire process, from cultivation and harvesting to processing and preparation, allowing them to maintain a high level of care and consistency in every coffee they produce.

Caring for the Environment

The Lovo family's commitment to sustainability extends across all of their farms.

Their approach focuses on maintaining balance—protecting the natural environment while producing coffee of exceptional quality. Shade trees, diverse vegetation, and responsible agricultural practices all contribute to a healthier ecosystem where coffee plants, wildlife, and the surrounding landscape can thrive together.

Processing is also approached with the same level of care.

Coffee cherries are depulped and fermented at the family's own wet mills without adding additional water during fermentation. After fermentation, clean mountain water is used to remove the remaining mucilage from the parchment coffee. The resulting wastewater is carefully treated before returning to the environment, helping protect the natural resources that make coffee production possible.

The family also gives new purpose to what would otherwise be waste. Coffee pulp is combined with calcium carbonate and organic materials, including chicken manure, to create nutrient-rich compost that is returned to the farms. This natural cycle improves soil health while reducing waste and supporting the continued productivity of the land.

Why We Partner with Bella Aurora

At Common Goal Coffee, we are drawn to producers who understand that sustainability is not a single practice—it is a way of thinking.

The Lovo family's approach represents the kind of partnership we value: generations of knowledge, a commitment to quality, and a genuine respect for the environment that makes coffee possible.

Bella Aurora is more than a coffee farm. It is a reflection of a family investing in the future—caring for their land, supporting their community, and continuing to build something that can be passed on to the next generation.

We are proud to share their story and the coffees they produce with our roasting partners.
