Meselech Tubie is an exceptional coffee farmer and a devoted mother of five, rooted in the picturesque landscapes of Bensa Sidama. Her 3.5-hectare farm, inherited from her father, is a testament to her deep commitment to coffee cultivation—a journey she embarked on in the 1990s. Over the years, she has transformed this land into a thriving source of high-quality coffee, blending tradition with meticulous care.
Meselech’s coffee processing begins with the careful handpicking of ripe, red cherries—a process that ensures only the finest are selected. Once harvested, the cherries undergo an additional round of manual sorting to remove any less dense ones, guaranteeing the highest quality beans.
The chosen cherries are then laid out on African raised beds, where they bask in the sun’s warmth. These elevated drying platforms promote optimal airflow, ensuring even drying while preventing mold, fermentation, or decay. Meticulously turned at regular intervals, the cherries undergo a natural transformation, preserving their rich flavors until they are ready for the next stage of processing.
